Tom, Alexa and Rudwan had quite the successful meeting today with the parish council and Catholic clergy in Torit. Rudwan spoke of who he used to be in the past, and his present and future committment to peace and reconciliation between Sudan and South Sudan, as well as Christians and Muslims. His vision was met with enthusiasm and full support. We were also able to meet with the local imam in Torit who also expressed his encouragement regarding the project.
We are now working on “working up the chain” by speaking with the proper Catholic authorities in order to get the ball rolling on beginning the project. Currently, we are in communication with South Sudan’s papal nuncio, who is located in Nairobi. We are hoping to get Vatican approval of our project within the next few weeks.
