Our Progams: Darfur Students
Association
Sudan Sunrise has partnered with the Darfur
Students Association at the University of Juba, Bahr Al Jebel State, to get aid
(clothes, food and goods) to refugees in Darfur.
In June, 2009, Nancy Williams, Sudan Sunrise NW Representative, and Rudwan
Yagoub Dawod, President
of the Darfur Students Association, traveled to the Anet market just south of
Abyei to meet with Darfurian community leaders who assisted them in collecting
money for Darfur from the market vendors. The traders themselves don't have much
and many are there without their families, yet so many of them were willing to
give 5 pounds, 10 pounds, even 20 pounds to send help to their people. Funds
were also collected in Turalei and Juba. The UN in Juba has agreed to help the
students deliver the donations.
As of January 2010, some students have traveled to Kimotong, to
help build the
Kimotong Reconcilation
Church.
The Darfur Students Association is newly organized with the following program
goals: Education, Cultural Awareness, Reconciliation between Darfurians and the
people of Southern Sudan, Rebuilding and Humanitarian efforts.
