Education Partnership with Southern Sudanese to Teach & Offer Friendship to Darfurian Refugees
NOTE: Due to the attempted coup by Chadian rebels to topple President Deby's government in N'Djamena in February 2008, and continued insecurity in the area, our return to the Darfurian refugee camps in southeast Chad is delayed.

In November 2004, Christian refugees from southern Sudan living in the U.S. believed God was calling them to reach out to their former enemies, the Muslims of Darfur, in love, forgiveness and mercy.
Exploratory mission teams visited the refugee camps in eastern Chad in November 2004, to assess the needs and to deliver a small supply of medicines and clothing. In January 2005, five thousand pieces of additional clothing was delivered to the camps. In April 2005, fifty-four pallets of clothing and twenty-five thousand pounds of dried milk were delivered to refugees residing in two camps along the eastern border between Chad and Sudan.
Sudan Sunrise Field Coordinator The Rev. Peter Adum Deng returned to the camps in November 2005, and determined one of the greatest needs is for education for young Darfurian refugees.
In August and September, 2007, a team visited refugee camps surrounding Abeche, Chad and received approval from the Government of Chad to conduct a one-month pilot education program in English language learning, to include:
- After school education for students
- Teaching of Teachers
- Education for Women
- Mentoring
- Friendship
Our refugee mission is a program to support Southern Sudanese who want to extend friendship to Darfurian refugees, with supplementary education in English language. As of June 2008 we continue to monitor the security situation in eastern Chad.
